Free deep-sea divers may suffer at varying depths from a sort of intoxication. This is the rapture of the deep, or to give it its scientific name, nitrogen narcosis. Dr. Kendrick talks about the cause of the narcosis, and suggests a connection between the effect and the personality of the diver.

Saturday-Night Theatre at 8.30
The novel by Sholem Ash adapted for radio by Harry Moore
[Starring] Finlay Currie, Sydney Tafler
with Nancy Nevinson

Isaac Grossman has prospered. He was brought up in the strict faith of his forefathers; he worked hard, and made money and now in his old age he looks back. There is one guilty episode that does not just trouble him; it has become obsessive. His children, not strictly brought up themselves, can only guess at the weight of guilt such an upbringing can lay on a man. Their guess is that it is a delusion; but old Isaac continues to wrestle with his remorse.
