Eileen Croxford (cello)
David Parkhouse (piano)
The American composer, Samuel Barber , who was forty-seven in March, has written a good deal of music of all kinds; but he is perhaps still best known in this country for his Adagio for Strings. His Cello Sonata dates from the same year as that work-I936-and, like it, is at once warm, romantic, and easily intelligible. It is in three movements : Allegro ma non troppo, Adagio, Allegro appassionato. Deryck Cooke
