by Ernest Atkinson
During his ten months' enforced stay on the island of Elba, Napoleon Bonaparte had six separate habitations. He was able to indulge his passion for building and redecorating-and also for parsimony. A gardener who employs too many helping hands and who wants to buy turves when grass seed will do must be severely dealt with. Ernest Atkinson , who visited Elba recently, describes some of the houses and gardens designed by Napoleon.
