Appeal on behalf of St. Martin-in-the-Fields' Christmas Fund by the Rev. Austen Williams
Contributions will be gratefully acknowledged and should be addressed to [address removed]
Every year the Vicar of St. Martin-in-the-Fields makes this Christmas appeal. It is an appeal by St. Martin's, but not an appeal for St. Martin's, for all the gifts received are distributed throughout the British Isles. Many people feel that Christmas is a time to make some personal gift to others who are in need through illness or misfortune, and for whom Christmas is a time of sadness rather than joy. The problem is how to find these people. St. Martin's knows them, knows where the need is greatest, and where the help is most required.

A novel by John P. Marquand adapted as a serial in twelve parts by H. Oldfield Box
11—' Wonder 'spelt backwards'
Produced by Wilfrid Grantham
*
March 1941. And, as for many years past, Jeffrey Wilson has gone to Hollywood to doctor a film script for Hal Bliss. Marianna Miller is in Hollywood too, to star in the same picture. But Jeffrey has no intention of becoming involved in a love affair with her.
Later a telephone call from Madge in New York, telling him that Jim has enlisted, has entirely changed his attitude. Madge has deliberately encouraged Jim to enlist, taking advantage of Jeffrey's absence, so as to separate Jim from Sally Sales. Jeffrey determines to stay on in Hollywood, with Marianna, and try at last to write a play of his own.

6-Science and Education
In this last lecture Sir Edward Appleton discusses the more advanced training of the scientist by way of the alternative routes provided by technical colleges and universities. But, in either case, a specialist training is not enough; we must have regard to the development of the whole individual. The young scientist should learn to view his subject against the background of civilisation, past and present. But it is even more important that he should appreciate that science is limited as a guide to life itself: that it often offers a moral choice but itself provides no final guidance in choosing.
