Pests from the Sky by C. G. Johnson , D.sc. of the Rothamsted Experimental Station
The migration of insects, particularly greenfly and blackfly, is being studied as a combined operation between Rothamsted and the Research and Development Establishment at Cardington. During the day most insects fly at a considerable height, but during the night large numbers of them descend. To the fruit and' vegetable grower it is important to know how these insects, many of which are pests or carriers of virus diseases, come to leave the sky and infest his crops. Dr. Johnson's talk describes how the problem is being studied.
