Appeal on behalf of the Homes of Rest for Gentlewomen, and the Friendly Almshouses, by Gladys Young
Contributions will be gratefully acknowledged and should be addressed to [address removed]
The Homes of Rest for Gentlewomen provide comfortably furnished bed-sitting rooms with full board for ladies under the age of seventy-five years at the time of entry. Residents, whose income must not exceed about £ 135 per annum, pay what they can according to their means.
The Friendly Almshouses provide homes for aged widows and single women who have seen better days. Each resident lives independently in her own pleasant bed-sitting room, and shares a kitchen, bathroom, and garden. A Rest Home adjoins where the more infirm, most of whom are in their eighties, have attention from the Matron, a retired nurse living on the premises.
