Blessing
Dr. D. Howard Somervell is well known as a mountaineer, artist, and writer. After qualifying as a doctor, he served with distinction in World War I, and later became famous as a member of two Mount Everest Expeditions, in 1922 and 1924. On his return from the second expedition, during which he nearly lost his life, he was so impressed by the work of Christian missionaries in India that he offered his services as a medical missionary under the London Missionary Society. His story illustrates Christ's saying: 'Heal the sick ... and say unto them " The Kingdom of God is come nigh unto you " ' (St. Luke 10, v. 9).
