This is the second in the series that it setting out to introduce some of those books which have had profound effects upon the story of mankind. In 1890 young American naval officer wrote the book, ' Influence of Sea Power upon History ', which is the subject of this even- ing's broadcast. It certainly has had no little say in the shaping of history-after reading it the Kaiser created the German Navy and all the tactics of blockade used in the present war are the practical demonstration of Mahan's thesis.
