Sonata in G minor (The Devil's Trill), played by Ida Haendel (violin)
Yesterday, the 250th anniversary of Tartini's birth, was marked by the performance of one of his violin concertos by Max Rostal and the BBC Northern Orchestra. This evening Ida Haendel plays the most famous of his violin sonatas, said to have been composed after a dream in which the Devil, having entered into a compact to serve the composer, played him a marvellous solo on the violin.
