An appeal by the Hon. Mrs. Sydney Marsham , O.B.E., for the relief of distress
This appeal is shared by the Friends of the Poor, the Winter Distress League, the Ivory Cross, the National Dental Aid Fund, and the Charity Organisation Society.
The help of listeners is asked on behalf of civilians who have suffered as a result of enemy action, but whose case lies outside the scope of the Lord Mayor's Air Raid Distress Fund and the Public Assistance authorities. Gifts for work in Scotland will be allocated by a special committee.
Here is something that concerns everybody, because at any time any one of us may be in dire need of the help that is asked now. It is surely an appeal to touch the hearts of all.
Contributions will be gratefully acknowledged, and should be addressed to [address removed]

The author of the original story of Mr. Sycamore, and the adapter and composer of this radio version, are all Americans. The play was one of the productions of the famous Columbia Workshop, which is the name given to the department of the Columbia Broadcasting System dealing with experimental radio drama.
Max Wylie, director of script and continuity for CBS, said of the original production of Mr. Sycamore: 'It was unique. in that it had no flaw. The lines sang. The cast was perfection. The story was the essence of appealing simplicity. The original score had a transporting power that elevated the quiet scenes to compelling authority.'
