John Morgan , M.P., followed by A talk on the ' cottage pig'
No man is busier than John Morgan who is giving a five-minute curtain-raiser to the backyard talk each week. In addition to being Labour M.P. for Doncaster, he is Secretary for the War Agricultural District Committee for the Saffron Walden area of Essex where he lives. It covers 33 parishes, and a survey is being made of every farm.
The talk that will follow will consider some of the aspects of the recent campaign by the Small Pig-Keepers' Council. All over the country people have starred keeping pigs — A.R.P. workers, policemen, dustmen, and* others. Some of the clubs are run on a co-operative basis. others after the traditional lines of the village pig club

Some critics have held that chamber music was not Delius's real medium of expression. It is true that he moved uncomfortably within the limits of the classical forms that have become more or less de rigueur in chamber music, but he wrote few things more characteristic than this Second Quartet, composed in 1916. The wistful. slow movement, ' Late
Swallows is saturated with Delius's individual poetry.

China-clay mining is an industry which few people outside Cornwall seem to know much about, Yet china-clay forms a part of almost every manufactured commodity we use today. Marshall Arthur , a pit captain from near St. Austell, tells something of what it involves.
W. E. Thomas is a thatcher from
Dorset, and R. J. Blackmore is a railway-worker from Swindon. Both callings, though dating from very different ages, are equally alive today.

A comedy for broadcasting from the story by P. G. Wodehouse
Production by John Cheatle
Never was a scene created in fiction with more delightful opulence and traditional indolence than that of Blandings Castle, seat of the Earls of Emsworth. Outside Blandings nature seems always to smile, despite the incredible carryings-on behind its walls. Certainly no excursion could more readily take the mind from depression than one among the noblemen, gardeners, angry aunts, and idle nephews of Blandings Castle especially when crime of the Blandings order is thrown in ! This play was originally broadcast on December 24, 1939

Rameau's opera Castor and Pollux is the second and probably the most successful of the composer's twenty-four stage works. It is a lyrical tragedy in five acts and a prologue, and was produced in 1737. Although the opera is no longer performed, some of its numbers are occasionally heard today.
The subject of the opera appealed to many other composers, and was particularly suited to the elaborate spectacle of eighteenth-century stage productions.
