Hunt (organ) Of the two anthems written by Mozart for the Latin rite, the first is little known, the second (the 'Angelic Motet' as it has been called) is often heard to English words, though rarely to its proper string accompaniment. Mendelssohn's setting of the Thirteenth Psalm for contralto solo, chorus, and orchestra was composed to a metrical version.

An appeal on behalf of The Finland Fund by the Rt. Hon. the Earl of Plymouth
On January 7 the first appeal was made for the Finland Fund (and magnificently answered) at a time when that unhappy country was embroiled in its war with Russia. That war is now over, but appalling hardship still afflicts Finland, and the plight of the 400,000 homeless Finns is one that must arouse the conscience of the world.
In the words of an old Finnish' proverb, ' Offer help to the man with the load while he is still on the hill, not after '.

Parry Jones , one of the most versatile of all British singers, was born at Blaina, Monmouthshire, the son of a well-known Welsh amateur tenor. He studied under Albert Visetti at the Royal College of Music and later with Ernesto Colli in Milan.
Not only is Parry Jones a successful opera singer-he was a member of the D'Oyly Carte, the Royal Carl Rosa , and the British National opera companies-but he is a fine interpreter of German Iieder and French song, and has made a special study of the songs of British composers, particularly those of Peter Warlock.

Beethoven's first symphony, produced in 1800, shocked conservative musicians of the day by beginning out of the key.
The theme of the second movement is unusually sprightly for a slow movement. The Minuet is really a typical Beethoven scherzo. The finale starts with a joke ; violins gradually and hesitatingly build up a scale which leads into a movement of the utmost high spirits.
