Favourite tunes from the operas on gramophone records
Presented by Anna Instone
Here is the second broadcast in a new series which Anna Instone began on November 2 with favourite tunes from Faust. It was her happy idea a couple of years ago to bring to the microphone some of those who sang peerlessly in the Golden Age of Opera - such as Susan Strong, Ben Davies, and Blanche Marchesi. It was a series that struck a new note in gramophone programmes, for listeners were able to hear in actuality the speaking voices of stars whose voices thrilled thousands in their day.
This new series is the result of requests from all over the country for tunes from opera.

Conducted by Constant Lambert
The programme will contain items requested by Service listeners
Constant Lambert, who is. one of the most brilliant of British conductors, appears in two programmes today: this evening's broadcast for the Forces, and earlier in the evening in the Home Service. Constant Lambert is perhaps best known as a conductor of ballet, and for many years now he has guided the fortunes of the Vic-Wells Ballet at Sadler's Wells. During the early part of the war he toured the provinces with the ballet and later the company went to Holland but had to leave quickly owing to the invasion. All the music was specially arranged for two pianos, one of which Lambert played.
