played by Michal Hambourg (piano)
This young virtuoso-she is only twenty—showed her great talent for the piano from the age of eight when she made a gramophone record with her father, Mark Hambourg. As a young child she toured with him, and gave her first concert at the age of eleven with her cousin, Charles Hambourg , the conductor. When she was fifteen she went to the Royal College of Music, and gave her first recital at the Grotrian Hall three years ago. She gave a concert with her father in Queen's Hall last February.
With her dark hair and dark eyes and pale pastel complexion, Michal Hambourg is among the loveliest of our broadcasters. Her husband is Edward Lewis , the architect, who has designed a music room for her in their home in Kensington. She played the concerto in D, reputed to be by Haydn, at a Prom two years ago, and is to play again at a Prom on September 3. She has also played at the National Gallery midday concerts. This is her first broadcast to the Forces.

Few people realise that Laelia Finneberg is British. Although bom in Liverpool, she spent most of her early life in Dublin, where she had her first lessons at the piano at the age of four. Later she studied at the Royal Irish Academy of Music, but only with the idea of becoming" an amateur. At seventeen she obtained a post in the Bank of Ireland, but continued her musical studies. After winning great- success at the Dublin Musical Festival she was advised to take up music professionally and went to Vienna to study. Since that time she has appeared with many of the leading orchestras in Europe.
