This ensemble was formed three and a half years ago with the object of broadcasting music by notable contemporary composers to appeal both to the general public and to the serious musician. Several pieces by well-known composers have been specially written for them, and they have broadcast first performances of works by Murrill, Demuth, and Phyllis Tate. Programmes have also included music by such distinguished musicians as Florent Schmitt , J. B. McEwen , Lennox Berkeley , Vaughan Williams , Bliss, Benjamin, and Poulenc.
