Dr Alex Douglas aims to regenerate Andrew's spinal cord with stem cells from a cloned embryo - an illegal procedure for which she soon finds herself standing trial. As the dramatised trial unfolds, the issues are explored through interviews with real proponents on both sides of the debate, and viewers can phone in their trial verdicts.
The If... Debate - a Newsnight Special follows, at the end of which the winning verdict will be screened.
Jeremy Paxman chairs a debate on issues raised in If... Cloning Could Cure Us, with stem cell research scientist Stephen Minger, Sue Mayer from GeneWatch, ethicist Dr Donald Bruce and paraplegic Andrew Slorance.
