To mark the 50th anniversary of the conquest of Mount Everest, this documentary tells the story of the historic expedition headed by Edmund Hillary. Seven previous attempts to scale the world's highest mountain had failed and in 1953 it was only Hillary and Tenzing Norgay of Nepal who reached the summit after the other climbers were forced to turn back. Previously unseen archive material and dramatic testimony from members of both the British and Swiss teams tell the inside story of this epic adventure and throw new light on the bitter controversies that followed.
