Hazel Irvine, Steve Davis and John Parrott introduce the action as four players book their place in the UK championship quarter-finals this afternoon.
It's an open competition this year- both Ronnie O'Sullivan and world champion Peter Ebdon failed to progress beyond the last 16 at last month's British Open, while world number one Mark Williams suffered a shock semi-final defeat at the hands of Ian McCulloch. Similarly, in October's LG Cup, outsider Chris Small - ranked 29 - claimed the title in a competition marked by poor form on the part of the top players.
