The most compelling dramatist could not have written a more dramatic situation than that which faces Lancashire in their final League match of the season at Old Trafford today.
Finalists in next Saturday's Gillette Cup Final, among the front runners of the Championship proper, and for so long this season brilliantly defending their Player League title, they must today overcome none other than their most implacable opponents - Yorkshire - in order to bring them the first of the three titles.

During the tea interval, at approximately 4.0 pm, Lord's Taverner Trevor Bailey will read a selection from his own book The Greatest of My Time.
