Introduced live from the Royal Albert Hall by Penny Gore.
Antonio Pappano, music director of the Royal Opera House, brings his other musical directorship to the Proms. The Santa Cecilia Foundation is one of the oldest musical institutions in the world. Until his death in 2003 Luciano Berio was the foundation's chairman so it's appropriate that the Santa Cecilia forces are bringing his Sinfonia back to the Proms, where it received its first performance in 1969 - with the Swingle Singers repeating the role that was created for them. And after the interval, Rossini's large-scale operatic setting of the Stabat Mater.

Emma Bell (soprano), Joyce DiDonato (mezzo), Lawrence Brownlee (tenor), Ildar Abdrazakov (bass), Swingle Singers, Chorus and Orchestra of the Academy of Santa Cecilia, Rome, conductor Antonio Pappano
