A concert recorded last week at Manchester's
Bridgewater Hall by the Halle Orchestra under their music director Mark Elder. Masterpieces by Mozart and Haydn frame two works that pay homage to the city of Vienna where the great composers lived and worked. The Stravinsky is full of theatrical echoes of Viennese classics, and HK Gruber 's piece is a dizzying car crash in which Viennese tradition collides with Fred Astaire. Presented by Catherine Bott. Leonidas Kavakos (violin), Halle Orchestra , conductor Mark Elder

Kenan Malik begins a series of explorations into the fringes of ecological design and research.
From the "Earthship" in Fife in Scotland to prefabricated living pods, architects and green activists are re-thinking our living environments in radical ways. These objects might once have been dismissed as outlandish, but in today's world, do they offer conceivable design solutions?
