In 1848 Chopin visited Scotland at the suggestion of his devoted pupil Jane Stirling for what, in the event, was to be his final tour. Writer Janice Galloway follows in his footsteps with Chopin expert Iwo Zaluski , visiting some of the houses where he stayed and the venues where he played, and finding out what life on the road was really like for the ailing composer who died a year later. Stephanie Hughes introduces a double bill of comedy recorded last month at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. Ravel's L'Heure Espagnole tells the story of a clock-maker's wife who discovers the best way to sneak her lovers into the bedroom inside the grandfather clocks her husband has made. Puccini's Gianni Schicchi, his only comedy, is the story of a village wide-boy who comes to the rescue of the greedy Donati family; while making sure he looks after himself as well.
