Battle Music
Lucie Skeaping presents a programme exploring compositions with a battle theme. Seventeenth-century composers were fascinated by warfare and it is believed that the Thirty Years' War is what fired the imagination of Biber in his Battalia. Also featured are works by such composers as Schmelzer, Scheidt and Janequin. Producer Rebecca Bean

Pigment Envy
In 1990 Public Enemy released an album called Fear of a Black Planet. Enclosed with critics' copies was a controversial pamphlet: The Cress Theory of Color Confrontation and Racism. The effect was like a small bomb going off. Harry Allen was responsible for that little pamphlet. "White people don't have to worry about racism," he explains, "because they have black people to do that for them." Producer Miles Warde
