Jez Nelson introduces a rare solo appearance by jazz pianist Randy Weston, recorded at this year's London Jazz Festival. His CV reads like a Who's Who of modern jazz, from his informal lessons with Thelonious Monk to his performances with artists such as Pharaoh Sanders, Freddie Hubbard and Ron Carter. Weston has spent many years discovering and digesting the rhythms and melodies of West and North Africa, which are fused in his music with his mastery of a diverse range of contemporary styles.
