Alyn Shipton goes in search of the itinerant Monouche Gypsies among whom Django grew up. Is it still possible to trace the musical roots of Reinhardt's style? Among families in the Gypsy settlements of Holland and Belgium, strong musical traditions are still handed down from father to son, while in Paris the urban descendants of Reinhardt mix new influences with jazz and Gypsy music to keep the legacy alive.
