The cult of the Blessed Virgin was particularly strong in the Catholic areas of northern Europe during the Middle Age. In this programme, featuring specially recorded music, Gothic Voices explore medieval European polyphony and plainchant with a Marian theme. Including music by Hildegard of Bingen, Philippe de Vitry and Guillaume de Machaut.
The Israeli actor Topol is chiefly known for his portrayal of Tevye the milkman in the film and the stage productions of Fiddler on the Roof. As the film is re-released in Britain, Topol discusses the key to its popularity and his legendary performance of If I Were a Rich Man.
