(1756-91). A week of programmes about Mozart's foreign travels and the influences he picked up along the way. Presented by Donald Macleod. 1: Mozart in London (1764-65)
Mozart and his family set off on their first European tour when Mozart was only nine. They spent 15 months in London and were very warmly received, especially by King George III , who tested the young prodigy's talents himself. The sights and sounds of England made a big impact on young
Wolfgang, particularly the music of JC Bach. Mozart's first symphony, composed in London, is very much in the JC Bach style, and the "English Bach was to be an influence on Mozart for the rest of his life.
