The first of five programmes this week in which Donald Macleod looks at music at the Dresden court of Augustus the Strong, elector of Saxony from 1694 and, briefly, king of Poland in the early 18th century. Today he visits the Royal College of Music in London and introduces chamber works by Mozart, Janacek and Dutilleux and a new work commissioned from a current RCM rising star, Huw Watkins. The Royal College of Music Symphony Orchestra under Edwin Roxburgh play Boulez's Figures-Doubles-Prismes in celebration of the composer's 75th birthday last month, and Royal College of Music professor of singing Thomas Allen leads a Mozart masterclass.
