With Donald Macleod. Poor Queen Anne has had a bad press, tending to be thought of as a style of architecture or of chair legs rather than as one of the most popular monarchs. The daughter of James II, she came to the throne in 1702 and was queen when John Churchill , first Duke of Marlborough, won a sequence of stunning victories over the French.
