How important is it for a British jazz artist to release records? Though major labels dominate, the independents have always played a major part in ensuring that British jazz artists are recorded. In the second of a series of features examining different aspects of the jazz industry, Jazz on 3 talks to Richard Cook, former head of jazz at Verve UK; Sirocco Jazz label head John Priestly; and Gary Crosby , who combines his roles as bassist in his groups Nu Troop and Jazz Jamaica with running his own independent label. Tonight's concert features a European trio who represented the vagues nouvelles at last November's London Jazz Festival. French reeds player Louis Scalvis, bassist Henri Texier and Italian drummer Aldo Romano share a background in the European improvisational scene and combine to produce a set that is both eclectic and lyrical. And in Blue Note's 60th year, the programme features a classic moment from the label.
