Vladimir Ashkenazy
The third of six programmes in which Chris de Souza introduces some of the pianist and conductor's many recordings. Today, Andre Previn talks about his long and intense artistic relationship with Ashkenazy, with their recordings of Rachmaninov's Suite No 2 for Two Pianos and Prokofiev's rarely performed Piano Concerto No 4 for the Left Hand. In one of his rare forays into British music, Ashkenazy conducts the Royal Philharmonic in Walton's Symphony No 2. And there is a chance to hear Ashkenazy's orchestration of Musorgsky's Pictures from an Exhibition alongside his performance of the piano original.
