CHRISTOPHER PAGE talks about one of the most accomplished ladies of the 12th century - saint, theologian, poet and naturalist as well as musician. He directs two of Hildegard's Sequences, one of them in the liturgical context of the Mass of Dedication of the Monastery of St Disibod. of which she was herself the Abbess.

In 1776 the Venetian, Ferdinando Bertoni , had to provide an opera for a company which included the famous castrato Guadagni, Gluck's original Orfeo. Another Orfeo resulted. Havdn actually chose Bertoni's setting in preference to Gluck's for performance at Esterhaz.
