Martinu admired Haydn's music for its ' joy, and that humble, undemanding attitude - the mark of a great man'. His Piano Trio No 2 is a work of homage to this style and is balanced with a performance of Haydn's Symphony No 52, in c minor, and Dvorak's homage to Czech national music in a Slavonic Dance.
