'The excursions of Mr Broucek' in Janacek's opera were based on two satirical novels by Svatopluk Cech; but although the librettist of the second part is known there is some dispute about the authorship of the first. John Tyrrell, who has worked in the Janacek Archives in Brno, discusses the question of who really wrote the libretto for the excursion to the Moon.
