3: Change and Continuity
The years up to 1939 were a time of bitter conflict and steady consolidation in the trade union movement. But, as Ernest Bevin said in 1927. ' The most conservative man in the world is the British Trade Unionist when you want to change him.' Is that why the movement survived the great depression better than most?

Acolyte: In the beginning the sum total of all black names are mouthed through the dead air across the abyss.

The function of the ritual is necromantic. Taking as a starting point the hypothesis that certain quasi-mystical societies were connected with the Nazi regime, the author has constructed an imaginary ceremony that such a society might perform today in an attempt to contact the spirit of their dead leader - Hitler. It is an attempt to investigate the power of the ritual aspect of such a ceremony as a ceremony and at the same time as a piece for radio.
