Workshop: The Ritual of the Stifling Air

on BBC Radio 3

by Paul Green

Acolyte: In the beginning the sum total of all black names are mouthed through the dead air across the abyss.

The function of the ritual is necromantic. Taking as a starting point the hypothesis that certain quasi-mystical societies were connected with the Nazi regime, the author has constructed an imaginary ceremony that such a society might perform today in an attempt to contact the spirit of their dead leader - Hitler. It is an attempt to investigate the power of the ritual aspect of such a ceremony as a ceremony and at the same time as a piece for radio.
