Act 1: On board King Marke's ship returning to Cornwall

Sir Charles Tennyson recalls his visits to Bayreuth, the first of which took place before the present century.
"I do not think that younger generations would tolerate a massive Brunnhilde smacking her equally massive horse smartly on the rump and flopping into the stage bonfire!"
Sir Charles Tennyson, who was born on 8 November 1879, died on 22 June this year. This is a repeat of a talk he recorded last year.

Earlier this summer the Yale Center for British Art was officially inaugurated at New Haven, Connecticut, to house what was the world's largest private collection of English paintings, drawings and rare books until Paul MeUon presented it to his alma mater. But Louis Kahn 's innovatory building is more than an art gallery; it is an integral part of the university.
