The Ring from Bayreuth 1976
Das Rheingold , a music-drama in four scenes (sung in German) Bayreuth's centenary production of The Ring was a brilliant and original affair that outraged and offended many who saw it. An unknown young Frenchman, Patrice Chereau , was the producer of this harshly realistic, anti-romantic interpretation in which Rhine. maidens appear as call-girls and the gods as grasping frock-coated Victorian capitalists.
