A music-drama in three acts (sung in German)
The second part of the controversial Bayreuth centenary Ring. Reactions to Patrice Chéreau's revolutionary production were violent. In order to explain his interpretation to radio listeners, each opera is being introduced by one of the several British music critics who were present. Robert Henderson introduces a Walküre in which 'Hunding's Hut' of Act 1 is dominated by a pit-wheel and Wotan in morning dress is found in the drawing-room of Valhalla in Act 2.

Murecambe by FRANZ XAVER KROETZ translated and adapted by JANE BRENTON with Lesley Joseph as Ann and Philip Sayer as Harry Ann and Harry have been happily married for three years and now Ann is pregnant. But her news is received with something less than enthusiasm by her husband.
Kroetz is one of Germany's leading contemporary playwrights and this play was first seen in this country (with the same cast as in this radio production) at the 1975 Edinburgh Festival where it won a 'Festival First' award.

Derek Jewell takes an extended look at the music and the message of the new recorded opera Evita by TIM RICE and ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER. Based on the life of Eva Peron , it stars JULIE COVINGTON in the title role and PAUL JONES as Che Guevara. Evita develops the considerable talents shown by Rice and Lloyd Webber in Jesus Christ Superstar, but significantly broadens their range, both in the orchestrations and in the Latin American styles often used.
