JOSQUIN DES PRES b. circa 1440, d. 1521
One of the great figures of the early Renaissance, composer of many masses, motets and secular songs. In his music one detects the full flowering of the mellifluous, polyphonic Renaissance style. Celebrated throughout Europe in his lifetime, his music later fell into neglect and was rediscovered by Charles Burney. This week's programmes concentrate on his sacred works, including. on Wednesday, a rarely performed mass. La sol fa re mi. Dominus regnavit; Tu so]us qui facis mirabllia; Benedicta es caelorum Regina: Miserere mei Deus: MEMBERS OF THE TOLZ BOYS' CHOIR, PRO CANTIONE ANTIQUA MEMBERS OF THE COLLEGIUM AUREUM HAMBURG WIND ENSEMBLE FOR EARLY MUSIC, conducted by BRUNO TURNER : record
