ELAINE PABMORE visited this little-known Czechoslovak Festival in 1975, and introduces recordings of music by Elgar, Weber. Prokofiev and Ravel. The soloists are laureates of the TIJI. a scheme featured at the Festival to promote talented young artists from countries all over the world.

How does the body know when to respond to an attack by an invading organism? How does it judge the severity of response needed? The blood of the vertebrates carries a series of proteins. collectively called complement, and its involvement with the immune response is one of the most intensively investigated areas of biochemistry.
John Maddox discusses the biological and evolutionary significance of complement with Professor Rodney Porter , Dr Peter Lachmann and Dr Ron Thompson.
