Archie Gordon. Marquess of Aberdeen, tells the story of some of Byron's Scottish ancestors, the Gordons of Gight. Some commentators have deduced an influence on the poet from his Celtic Highland ancestry. His mother Catherine Gordon Byron came. however, from a Scottish family who were not Highland though they were often violent, unruly and murderous.
This line of Aberdeenshire Gordons was both noble and royal in origin.... through 13 terrible generations their behaviour was consistently ignoble and they much annoyed successive kings.
