Reflections of a Dead Queen
A dramatic song-cycle by John Dankworth with text by Eleanor Bron, based on the lives of Mary Queen of Scots and Elizabeth I of England. It was specially written for: Lissa Gray and Elizabeth Leigh-Howard (sopranos), John Marson (harp), Leslie Pearson (harpsichord and organ)
Eleanor Bron introduces the work, and reads her poems.

Donald Wesling argues against the case recently put in The Times Literary Supplement that 'Americans cannot read poetry aloud.' He notes a kind of English literary imperialism in this attitude to 'the American wooden ear.' On the contrary, Mr Wesling believes that it is the British ear which is wooden when it fails to hear how skilfully the best recent American poetry controls its tone and rhythm.
