The poetrv of Rene Char first became known in England during the 1940s after he had commanded' a force of the Maquis in the Basse-Alpes during the German occupation of France. Tonight ANTHONY HARDING introduces some of his own new translations of Feuillets d'Hypnos the poet's wartime notebook, and other poems and prose pieces dating back to the 1920s and up to the present day.
