In Dialogues and a Diary Stravinsky made some detailed criticism of three recordings of The Rite of Spring by Boulez, Craft and Karajan. In an earlier talk Edward Greenfield presented Stravinsky's comments with musical illustrations and also compared these records with the three versions Stravinsky himself made in the 1920s, 40s and 50s. In the recent volume of Craft-Stravinsky essays and conversations, Stravinsky adds three other versions to the list: Boulez's second recording. Mehta's with the Los Angeles Orchestra, and has some second thoughts on his own LP recording from the 1950s.
EDWARD GREENFIELD talks in the light of these new comments (Pierre Boulez conducts The Rite of Spring in tomorrow's all-Stravinsky Prom at 7.30;
