In his recent Reith Lectures and in his new book Beyond the Stable State Donald Schon recommends us to stop trying to strengthen the centre and to look at other kinds of social systems.
Dr Douglas considers Dr Schon's diagnosis of our political state from her point of view as a social anthropologist.

Dr Budd examines Donald Schon's analysis of the business firm and of government agencies and discusses whether his descriptions and prescriptions can usefully be applied to present-day Britain.
