The Family
Family life is unique, and each family is unique. No family is the same as any other; it shares its pleasures and solves its problems in its own particular way. But there are general questions which are of concern to many famiies - problems of family organisation, of discipline, of finance, of shared leisure and responsibilities. There are points of friction to overcome; there may be new babies to learn to cope with, or the problem child to deal with and there are parents' and children's ambitions to fulfil.
In the studio are Dr Faith Spicer , Medical Director, London Youth Advisory Centre; and Dr James Hemming , educational psychologist and counsellor, to answer your questions. Judith Chalmers is in the Chair

1 In the hostel your friends were given to you ... outside I didn't know how to find them....'
Some nights I used to hate it. I used to think I'd go mad just looking at the four walls.'
' The Navy was an easy option for me , .. I was looking for a place where I would find it pretty easy to be able to cope ..." . For young people brought up in local authority care, the transition to the outside world may be a painful and lonely experience. They. may have to come to terms with unemployment, bad accommodation, and unsatisfactory friendships, and often they have no one to turn to for help and advice.
Young people describe their lives after coming out of care, and social workers and others consider ways in which support may be given.
