Comedy: Have I Got News for You 9.30pm BBC1
As Friday nights seem suddenly to have become chock-full of undemanding light-entertainment programmes (and I'm not entirely sure why and how that's happened), here's a bit of brain food if you feel in need of intellectual exercise, and of course, a bit of a laugh. The ever-dependable Ian Hislop and Paul Merton return to captain the two teams, though as we went to press no guests had been confirmed. And as for the other question on the lips of every HIGNFY fan - who's the guest presenter? - we can't answer that either, as no one has yet been recruited. (AG)

Nicole Kidman joins Jonathan as her latest movie The Interpreter opens in Britain. Friends star David Schwimmer chats about his West End debut in Neil LaBute's Some Girls, and there's psychic spoofing with Shirley Ghostman. Plus music from Doves.
(High Spirits with Shirley Ghostman is at 11.30pm on BBC3)

CHAT
Friday Night with Jonathan Ross 10.35pm BBC1
Glacial superstar Nicole Kidman is tonight's big Wossy guest, and doubtless he's feeling very smug at securing such a huge Hollywood name. But this is bound to be interesting viewing. Kidman, over here to promote her new film The Interpreter, rarely gives much away in interviews. So will she be prepared to chat about her ex, Tom Cruise, or a certain Steve Bing? Does she have a sense of humour to the extent that she'll allow Ross a few gentle digs? The world awaits.
Also on tonight's show, and marking surely the very definition of an eclectic line-up, is David Schwimmer(geeky Ross from Friends) and cod parapsychologist, BBC3's "Shirley Ghostman". AG
