In Deep 9.00pm BBC1
A straight-talking "zero tolerance" police chief, Det Chief Insp Holland, introduces himself to the residents of a rough area of a northern city at the start of the second two-part story in this entertaining under-cover detective series.
At a public meeting he throws down a gauntlet to the local Mr Big (Charlie Pearce, played by Gary Whelan, who was on the other side of the law in Prime Suspect), a man who keeps order by beating up other criminals and extorting money from businesses. But the police chief doesn't get very far- literally, as he's shot dead at traffic lights after leaving the meeting. Suspicion naturally falls heavily on the Mr Big.
Our under-cover cop heroes, Liam and Garth (Nick Berry and Stephen Tomkinson), are brought in, along with their big-mouthed colleague Kelly (Carli Norris). The threesome sets up an operation selling fake watches, but it's not long before Mr Big and his heavies come to call. Soon events run out of control as someone brandishes a gun and there's a very nasty shock at the end of the episode. Part two is tomorrow. (Alison Graham)
