Michael Buerk presents a seven-part series featuring extraordinary real-life stories of heroism and bravery reconstructed by the emergency services, actors and those people involved in the rescues themselves.
A form of "reality television", which is very popular in the United States, the programmes are described by series producer Andy Batten-Foster as "enhanced documentaries".
His aim has been to make engaging films using all the available film techniques, including non-documentary drama.
Tonight's programme includes a gas explosion that buries a woman under a block of flats; a birthday treat which goes disastrously wrong when a skydiver passes out 12,000ft up; and a runaway motorboat that causes havoc and injury off the coast of Devon.
Plus first aid tips, and video reporter Fiona Foster with her first weekly report from the frontline of the rescue services.
